What’s on at our 2017 Show
This year we are pleased to be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the setting-up of the Romsey Agricultural Society. The past 175 years have seen momentous change in every sphere of life and we are inviting everyone to be involved with our celebrations. Our President this year is Dr Phil Harding, best known from Channel 4’s popular archaeology series Time Team.

The Sheep Show
Presented in humorous kiwi style, the show introduces us to 9 different breeds of sheep, each with a story to tell. The sheep are welcomed on to the stage by their own theme tune, “Lenny the Lincoln Long wool” arrives to a great Bob Marley tune (very apt for a sheep that has natural dread locks). The show includes a very informative shearing display and learn more about wool. Finally, just to add to this already humorous but educational show, the sheep then do The Sheep Show Shuffle, Yes, dancing sheep!
The Heavy Horse Logging Display
David Shering and friends will be bringing a display, which is usually conducted in the depth of the forest – Featuring many of the skills and tasks undertaken by man and horse, the display will demonstrate the loading of a young rootballed tree on to a sledge and the pulling out of fence posts. They will also be displaying a restored old timber carriage, pulled by two heavy horses. Come and see an old tradition brought to life in the main President’s Ring!
The Dog & Duck Display Team
An entertaining and educational display in the President’s Ring – including fascinating insights into how to understand dogs, demonstrations of dogs’ natural instincts and a very amusing display of sheep dogs working with ducks.
The Inter Pony Club Jump Relay
A friendly, fast and exciting competition. Two teams from Hursley Pony Club, with riders of different levels, will be competing at high speed over show jumps. Come and cheer them on in the President’s Ring, the louder the better!
